Urgench State University, UrSU

Urgench State University named after Al-Khorezmi (UrSU) was founded by the decree #356 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on February 28 in 1992 on the base of Khorezm Pedagogical State Institute.

Nowadays the university offers 44 Bachelor degree, 12 Master degree and 13 PhD programs on different fields of study. 25 teachers obtained their PhD degrees in Europe. Total number of students is 6828, 94 of which are foreign. There are 450 teachers-professors, who work at 9 faculties. The university has 7 main buildings, 4 student's dormitories, 2 informational resource centres, many sport clubs and other opportunities for student's entertainments.

Annually approximately 1500 students graduate from the university. The majority of them are hired by the leading local companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

All students and teaching staff have free access to high speed Internet. There are about 800 personal computers, 27 computer classes.

Scientific researches were made at ZEF/UNESCO “Economic and ecological restructuring land and water use in the Khorezm region” within the cooperation of UrSU for 12 years. UNESCO chair “Education for Sustainable development” was opened in 2011.

European professor-teachers come to deliver lectures for the students of UrSU. Nowadays there are such international projects at UrSU as CABI of Switzerland, ZEF of Bonn University, Mashav of Israel, CRDF of the USA, KOICA of South Korea, ICARDA of Syria, GIZ of Germany, PROON, UNDP, LOGO e.V, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, CIM UNESCO, ACCESS, RGB virtual reading hall of Russian State Library, USDA.

UrSU has a great experience in educational innovation as in GIS technology, agriculture sphere, architecture, teacher training and etc. At ZEF/UNESCO project 18 PhD on agriculture, biology, economy, geography were prepared on European standards. Nowadays their research results are utilized in innovative solving problems of agriculture.
